Food Trend Friday: Warm up for the Winter

Trying to think of creative ways to warm up your guests at your winter wedding? Incorporating stations with warm beverages like egg nog or apple cider is a great way to keep your guests feeling warm and cozy.  Try a station with different types of egg nog; dairy free, spiked with your favorite bourbon or spiced rum, or old fashioned for the children. Not a fan of egg nog? Try the same concept with apple cider! The cider can be mulled with various spices, spiked with brandy or spiced rum, or paired with other fruits, such as apricots, oranges, or cranberries, to infuse an additional flavor to this classic drink. Freshly baked cookies and milk can also bring in some warmth and provide a tasty late night snack for everyone of all ages at your wedding from children to your grandparents.

Food Trend Friday: Lights, Camera, Action!

Curious how to make your reception more of a food production?  We can help with relatively easy ways to enhance your event by jazzing up some foods you often see at weddings or other special events.  If your city doesn’t have any local food trucks like we mentioned last week, try these to get you started.

Serve up fresh oysters with a chef shucking them to order for your guests – a bit more exciting than just serving them on ice.  Oysters aren’t for everyone, but if Mexican flavors are more your style, setup a guacamole station with different types of ingredients to give this side dish a makeover as a focal point.  Why not invite a local sommelier or wine shop owner to give your guests a private wine tasting at your cocktail reception?  You can provide your guests their own tasting notebook with flavor notes for the different wines. Then, have them leave a note in your tasting book with their favorites along with warm wishes, and voila – instant guest book!  Another fall wedding favorite is a coffee, hot chocolate, and smore’s station, complete with all of the trimmings like marshmallows, flavors, and options for making an “adult” version of these warm drinks (bring on the Bailey’s and Jameson, please!). Make the station extra cozy by providing guests with a lounge area for an authentic campfire feel – without the stinky clothes, though!

Regardless what you do, your food and drinks will play a big role in your reception…why not give it an extra boost?!?

Food Trend Friday: Food Truck Fun

Looking for a food idea off the beaten path?  Have a food truck at your reception! Food trucks are a fun and interesting twist to the buffet style wedding reception.  The best part about having a food truck at your wedding is you get to serve your favorite late night meals.  Tacos, burgers, hotdogs, pizza, and ice cream are a few of the most popular food truck choices.  The food truck option does not have to be your main source of food but it will definitely be the highlight of the reception with your guests.

Food Trend Friday: Let’s Do Brunch!

Don’t skip out on the best meal of the day; instead share it with your loved ones on your special day.  A new food trend hitting the wedding scene is a brunch reception.  This is absolutely perfect for a daytime wedding with beverage stations like mimosas and bloody marys or even a smoothie bar.  For the food, get creative with an omelet or pancake station for your guests where they pick and choose any whatever suits their tastes – western, veggie, or something as simple as a ham and cheese omelet.  Pancakes make another great station offering up wheat, gluten free, and buttermilk pancakes.  Right beside your pancake station let your guest dress them up with fruit, whipped cream, chocolate chips, etc.  Brunch is an excellent reception choice! Not to mention it’s fun and different from your normal wedding food fare.

Trend to Watch: “Natural” Wedding Cakes

Since Hillary Duff got married almost a year ago, the “natural” wedding cake trend has been on the rise. Sometimes called unfrosted, naked, rustic, or even homey, these cakes are a fun and different way to add a small personal touch to your big day. Let’s face it, some people just don’t really like icing. However, most people want a cake in some form or another. It’s tradition! A natural wedding cake puts you in complete control and might even make the cake taste better. The cake itself is in the spotlight since what is usually hidden by a forgiving layer of fondant is now out in the open for all the world to see. After you pick the flavor, the icing between layers, and maybe even a little fruit, you’re done! You know what it’s going to look like and don’t have to stress about it. An unfrosted cake is simple, and we have even read that they are perfect for summer weddings because there is less icing to fall or melt in the heat.  These no-icing cakes leave little to the imagination and look delicious. The unfrosted cake might not be for every bride, but they are a charmingly unexpected way for you to have your cake and eat it too.
